Riley's Fish Shack

A stone throw away from Sunderland is a little town called Tynemouth. Hidden away in King Edwards bay, is a fish bar called Riley's Fish Shack. Converted from two shipping containers Riley's Fish Shack serves amazing locally sourced food.

Myself and my friend James drove through straight from work to find out the chefs were on a break, they didn't start serving food again until 6 o'clock. So we decided to order hot drinks and sit by the fire until it was time.

After realising I'd forgotten to pay for parking, running to the car and back it was soon 6 o'clock. I went for the chilli salt squid sick while James played it safe and went for the open flat iron steak wrap (still an unreal choice). Both come with garlic potatoes, vinaigrette salad and Hepplewhite's Chipolte chilli relish.

We sat back down with our Sanpellegrino and tended to our diminishing fire until we heard our name called. The second picture is what happens when the wind changes direction, giving a different meaning to smokey eyes. I think they might have forgotten about us sitting down on the beach as an hour later we still hadn't been called for food. However it wasn't too long after asking how long our food would be I was handed to boxes of steaming hot food which smelled delicious.

Practically flying back to my deck chair on the beach with the food, we soon realised eating by an open fire wasn't so great as we couldn't even see what we were eating! While the food was still hot we speedly walked back up to the shack and took refuge on the terrace.

The food was absolutely to die for well worth the wait and the drive out there. The fab thing about Riley's Fish Shack is that depending on what the local fisherman catch depends on their menu. It was such a lovely way to end a long week teaching.
